Tinajo is set on the north to central west coast of Lanzarote. Tinajo is also a whole district of Lanzarote and thus covers a much larger area than than the town of Tinajo.

There is little tourism or tourist attractions in Tinajo. The majority of the residents are local's, nicknamed 'Conojeros', which mean rabbiters. This is derived from the fact that there are a lot of wild rabbits on Lanzarote and many people love going out on a Sunday morning hunting rabbits with the help of a gun or a pack of dogs.
